Training for the Death Ride in Alpine County?




Thinking about attempting the Death Ride this year?  Motherlode Bicycle Coalition recommend the following events to help you prepare!  Not only is this great training, but you’re supporting some amazing organizations and their endeavors to promote health, adventure, and economic development through responsible outdoor recreation.


Sunday March 17, 2024: Ride & Walk 4 Art

Join the 8th annual RideandWalk4Art in the beautiful California foothills in West Calaveras County. Choose from 3 bicycle rides—30-miles, 45-miles, or 70-miles skirting New Hogan Lake. Not only is this the perfect conditioning ride, but it’s also a fun way to help Calaveras County public schools provide meaningful art instruction to local kids. You get a joyful, monitored, safe ride through beautiful Calaveras County and all proceeds are used to expose kids to theater, painting, drawing, literature, and poetry.  More information and registration here: https://www.rideandwalk4art.com/



Saturday May 4, 2024: Ride 2 Bear Valley & the High Sierra Bike-a-Palooza

Join Motherlode Bicycle Coalition Special Events Director, Rob Williams, for the Ride 2 Bear Valley Tour from Camp ConnellGeneral Store to the Bear Valley Adventure Company as part of the High Sierra Bike-a-Palooza event.  18 miles each way, this challenging ride through the Sierra Nevada along the Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway is the perfect “warm up”!  More information and pre-registration here: https://forms.gle/MdXzebCcuGH78dbT7



Saturday June 8, 2024: Groveland Grind

The Groveland Grind is a Yosemite Area Adventure Ride on mixed terrain (pavement, broken pavement, dirt, ruts and gravel) on Yosemite National Park’s doorstep! Three amazing routes with amazing views to choose from - 48 miles dubbed “The Rumble up to Trumbull”, 30 miles medium, or 21 miles through the majestic Stanislaus National Forest on historic sections of the original roads and railroads to Yosemite!  Proceeds support Groveland Trail Heads and their development of a mountain bike specific single-track trail throughout the Groveland area.  More information and registration here: https://grovelandtrailheads.org/events/groveland-grind-2024/

Saturday July 13, 2024: Death Ride Tour of the California Alps

Ride one or all 6 categorized climbs of three iconic CA Alps passes/grades to build a ride of up to 103 mi. on a fully-supportedcourse with about 14,000 feet of climbing! You can pedal both sides of Monitor Pass 8,314’, both sides of Ebbetts Pass 8,370’ & both sides of Pacific Grade 8,050’. Bonus: All but about 10 miles of the course is closed to vehicles!
